What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is a holistic approach to healthcare that focuses on addressing the root causes of illness and promoting the body’s innate ability to heal. Naturopathic doctors (NDs) utilize natural therapies, lifestyle interventions, and personalized treatment plans to support optimal health and well-being.

What Conditions Do Naturopathic Doctors Treat?

Naturopathic doctors are trained to treat a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Digestive disorders
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Chronic pain and inflammation
  • Allergies and autoimmune diseases
  • Mental health concerns
  • Cardiovascular conditions
  • Fatigue and insomnia
  • Skin conditions
  • And more

What Can I Expect During My Initial Consultation?

During your initial consultation with a naturopathic doctor, you can expect a thorough assessment of your health history, lifestyle factors, and current symptoms. The doctor will take the time to listen to your concerns, answer any questions you may have, and collaborate with you to develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs and goals.

Do Naturopathic Doctors Only Use Natural Therapies?

While naturopathic doctors emphasize the use of natural therapies such as herbal medicine, nutrition, and lifestyle counseling, they are also trained to integrate conventional medical diagnostics and treatments when necessary. Naturopathic medicine is about finding the most effective and least invasive approach to address each individual’s health concerns. Naturopathic doctors will order diagnostic testing or refer you another medical doctor for further investigation.

How long will I need to be treated?

Regaining and maintaining good health is a life-long process. Quite frankly, everyone can benefit from natural medical care for the rest of their life. If you are healthy, you will have more energy, focus, and strength, and live longer. If your primary concern is how long it will take to get rid of a specific problem or disease, we will give you our best estimate for the length of treatment after we have completed your health assessment.

How much will my treatment cost?

The cost of your treatment depends on two factors. The first factor is the nature and severity of your health challenges, which we identify during your health assessment. For example, if you have a severe chronic disease, your treatment will take longer than if you have a simple infection. If you’ve had a chronic problem for twenty years, it’s probably not going to disappear completely in a matter of weeks, although it may improve. The second factor is your level of commitment to removing the causes of your health problems. Full recovery requires that the causes of the condition are corrected or removed. Removing the cause takes longer and is more work than just suppressing your symptoms. Regaining full function and health will likely be more expensive than trying for a”quick fix”. Of course, the choice is yours. We will tell you what it will take for you to reach your personal health goals, and approximately how much it may cost. If you have financial concerns, you have the option of recovering your health in phases. In consultation with you, we will develop a treatment program that is within your budget.

Are Naturopathic Treatments Covered by Insurance?

Dr. Kennedy does not accept insurance but can generate a Superbill which you can submit to your insurance company. Dr. Kennedy would be considered as an “out–of-network-provider”. Coverage for naturopathic treatments varies depending on your insurance provider and policy. We recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to inquire about your coverage.

Can Naturopathic Medicine Be Used Alongside Conventional Treatments?

Yes, naturopathic medicine can complement conventional treatments and may be used alongside them to support overall health and well-being. Because Dr. Kennedy is acting as your natural health specialist, he requires students to have a current Primary Care Provider (PCP) and Specialist, as needed.  Dr. Kennedy is happy to collaborate with other healthcare providers as needed to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
